Performs as a professional Nurse Leader in assessing, planning, directing and evaluating patient care for an adult Cardiovascular and cardiac telemetry patient. Responsible for meeting Standards of Nursing Practice, for managing all personnel, supplies and equipment on the unit for promoting harmonious team participation with physicians and personnel of other departments. Subject to irregular hours. Must possess ability to function in a stressful environment.
Responsible for the functional management of 2 North Telemetry
Provides input for the preparation and actively participates in the implementation of approved budget for the operation of 2 North Telemetry. In a method that provides quality service, manages the Unit with the established budgets for fiscal year.
Develops a cost control system within the Unit for controlling expenses.
Ensures a safe working environment by providing maintenance and care of equipment. Purchases new equipment as needed, after consultation with the Department Director.
Is responsible for maintaining accurate payroll on all employees; adds in sick and vacation hours where applicable. Uses correct criteria codes.
Completes staffing schedule, maintaining a staffing pattern for optional coverage with employees minimizing usage of supplemental staff. Communicates with Director when staffing concern or problem arises.
Assumes responsibility for the employment, orientation, evaluation, and discipline of employees on the 2 North unit. Promotes growth and development of individual employees and harmonious relationships and positive attitudes among the staff.
Interviews and hires employees for the 2N Telemetry Unit in a nondiscriminatory manner.
Oversees the planning and supervision of orientation for new employees.
Promotes growth and development of employees and is responsible for annual Performance Appraisals.
Participates in the annual review and revision of Job Descriptions and Performance Appraisals.
Conducts meetings to keep staff informed of changes in policies and procedures. Represents the Department/Leadership meetings and reports back all necessary communications.
Develops a system for reviewing personnel performance and initiates personnel actions such as merit increases, promotions, transfers, disciplinary action, termination, etc.
Provides counsel to employees and initiates disciplinary actions as needed after consulting Director and Human Resource Department.
Responsible for maintaining a standard of nursing care that satisfies the requirements of hospital philosophy, policy and procedure and legal nursing practice. Provides a staffing pattern appropriate to the nursing care needs of the 2 North Telemetry.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
Coordinates and reports outcome of nursing activities performed on behalf of the patient.
Ensures that nursing standards and practices are developed and met.
Establishes and implements unit and cardiovascular divisional goals and objectives in keeping with nursing administration goals and objectives. Acts as liaison between nursing administration and medical staff. Establishes and maintains communication between the 2 North Unit and ancillary departments for the purpose of problem-solving. Utilizes appropriate lines of communications within the nursing department.
Promotes a safe environment that allows for the delivery of high quality patient care.
Assumes responsibility for self, regarding knowledge of policies, manuals and communications. Takes responsibility for self-growth and job improvements.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops.
Attends meetings as required. Represents the Unit at Administrative meetings. Participates on hospital committees as requested and serves as consultant to other departments.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
